PORTSMOUTH, R.I. —  Jon Nelson of B.B. Nelson Apiaries in Woonsocket and Roger Robitaille of Papa Roger’s Honey Farm in Warwick recently rescued nearly 60,000 bees.

Nelson got a call July 20 that a dilapidated building at Glen Farm was going to be razed. He and Robitaille arrived at 1 p.m. and spent the next several hours tearing down an outside wall to get at a hive that run from floor to roof. The duo rescued 16 pounds of bees, or about 56,000 bees, as there are 3,500 bees per pound, and 10 frames of honey.
