First Thursday Botanizing Walk at Lime Rock Preserve

  • Lime Rock Preserve 64 Wilbur Rd Lincoln, RI, 02865 United States (map)

About: Join Cheryl Wiitala, preserves manager for The Nature Conservancy, for a walk at the Lime Rock Preserve in Lincoln. The Lime Rock Preserve is laced with trails illustrating a wide variety of distinctive New England habitats including woodlands, forested swamps, streams, open water and calcareous ledges. These ledges of dolomitic marble produce a special calcareous soil that once nurtured as many as 30 rare plant species. Although a few of these species have disappeared over time, a botanizing walk along the trails will not disappoint. Sightings should yield a diversity of ferns, hepatica, common shinleaf, columbine and marsh-marigolds. Botanizing walks are organized by the Rhode Island Wild Plant Society.
