Creative Recycling Talk

  • The Village at Waterman Lake 715 Putnam Pike Greenville, R.I. (map)

About: This Northwest Rhode Island Supporters of Open Space event is a hike, clean-up event and annual meeting. Bonnie Combs, marketing director for Blackstone Heritage Corridor Inc., will be the guest speaker. With a passion for recycling, Combs manages the corridor’s Trash Responsibly program and works with the 25 communities in planning clean-up events. In the past year, Combs also launched a “Fish Responsibly” program to address problems with fishing line left behind by anglers. As a result of her efforts, bait and tackle shops across the Blackstone Valley now collect monofilament fishing line and empty spools to be recycled. A light brunch will be served. Free and open to the public, but RSVP is requested to Attendees are encouraged to bring empty grain or seed bags for Combs’ upcycling efforts. Following the meeting, attendees are invited on a short hike of the Ken Weber Conservation Area at Cascade Brook. The hike will include a trash cleanup around the Cascade Brook parking area.
