Creative Recycling Talk

  • The Village at Waterman Lake 715 Putnam Pike Greenville, R.I. (map)

About: This Northwest Rhode Island Supporters of Open Space event is a hike, clean-up event and annual meeting. Bonnie Combs, marketing director for Blackstone Heritage Corridor Inc., will be the guest speaker. With a passion for recycling, Combs manages the corridor’s Trash Responsibly program and works with the 25 communities in planning clean-up events. In the past year, Combs also launched a “Fish Responsibly” program to address problems with fishing line left behind by anglers. As a result of her efforts, bait and tackle shops across the Blackstone Valley now collect monofilament fishing line and empty spools to be recycled. A light brunch will be served. Free and open to the public, but RSVP is requested to info@nrisos.org. Attendees are encouraged to bring empty grain or seed bags for Combs’ upcycling efforts. Following the meeting, attendees are invited on a short hike of the Ken Weber Conservation Area at Cascade Brook. The hike will include a trash cleanup around the Cascade Brook parking area.
