Integrating “Bee Hotels” and Other Designs for Pollinators into Urban Planning

  • URI East Farm, Building 75 2095 Kingstown Road Wakefield, R.I. (map)

About: J. Scott MacIvor, a post-doctoral researcher from the Department of Biological Science at the University of Toronto Scarborough, will talk about cavity-nesting bees and the design of artificial analogs of their natural nesting conditions; in this case, the “bee hotel.” Many designs exist, and the pros and cons of each will be explored, as well as how to best construct, place and maintain bee hotels to support wild bees and other insects.
