About: Jamestown soil scientist Jim Turenne will speak on soils and recharging groundwater. He will demonstrate how different soils affect the flow of rainfall and snow melt over the land and through the soil to recharge the ground water. Recharging the ground water is particularly important to ensure that residents have access to enough water, whether on private well or town water. Keeping the water on the land also works to stem soil erosion along the island’s coastline. The presentation is free and open to the public. The talk is being co-sponsored by the Friends of Jamestown Library and the Jamestown Water Initiative. To reserve a seat, send an e-mail to JametownWater@gmail.com.
