Mashapaug Pond Film Screening

  • J.T. Owens Park 350 Niantic Avenue Providence, RI, 02910 United States

About: Come watch “Mashapaug Pond and Truffula Trees” under the stars and beside the cool breezes of Mashapaug Pond. UPP arts director Holly Ewald and geologist Will Daniels will host the second of three film nights in the 2016 Full Circle Film Series. Ewald will show seminal images in her thinking behind the floating sculpture/film screen, and Daniels will demonstrate water and sediment sampling to educate the audience about the ecological issues facing Mashapaug Pond. Stories of the pond shared by those who have lived by Providence’s largest natural freshwater pond will set the stage for bringing the message of “The Lorax” home. Ewald and Elizabeth Scott, deputy chief of water quality for the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, will also facilitate discussion about the cleanup of Mashapaug Pond. The Full Circle project activities are made possible with a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the city of Providence Department of Art, Culture + Tourism. The film is free and open to the public. Popcorn and cold drinks will be available. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket. Rain date is Aug. 27.
